Iran: Apparently protests against the threat of executions – politics

In Iran, according to activists, many people have taken to the streets to protest the threat of execution of several men. Demonstrators gathered in front of a prison in the metropolis of Isfahan on Monday night, as pictures on social media showed. So far, the recordings have not been independently verified.

For days, human rights activists have been warning of the execution of several controversial death sentences. Among those threatened are three protesters who the judiciary accused of killing security forces during the nationwide protests in November. According to estimates by the United Nations, more than 200 people have already been executed in Iran in 2023.

The wave of protests in the fall was triggered by the death of the young Iranian Kurd Jina Masha Amini. She died in police custody in mid-September after being arrested by the Morality Police for disobeying Islamic dress codes. Her death sparked the worst protests in decades.
