He now not only searches the garbage cans of supermarkets, but also those of retailers. He finds so many things.
For example, he tracks down nail polish worth 114,000 euros in the rubbish bins of a cosmetics store.
Martyn feels like he’s doing something good with his work, as many of the valuables he pulls out of the trash aren’t recyclable or were disposed of in the wrong way.
His extraordinary job takes around 12 hours a week.
The rest of the time he spends cleaning and repairing his spoils.
He gives away most of the found items to family members or donates them.
He sells the remaining items and can make a good living from the proceeds.
According to his own statements, the Brit earns between 230 and 1140 euros a week. Martyn also fishes his groceries out of the garbage in supermarkets and therefore has hardly any expenses.
Containers are generally prohibited in Germany and Great Britain. However, this rule has been criticized. Most recently, the Greens and FDP suggested that containers in Germany should no longer be punished.
