This simple trick cleans up your iPhone – and hardly anyone knows it

Cleaning up the iPhone quickly turns into annoying work. But with a little-known trick it is much faster. We reveal how it works.

Anyone who has many apps on the iPhone knows the chaos on the home screen. With a well-hidden trick, order can be quickly established. Apps have moved the same way since the first iPhone. You hold down the app icon, as soon as it starts to shake, you can move it. If you want to move more than one app to another home screen, the back and forth can quickly become annoying. Very few people know that there is a much easier way.

Here’s how it works: First, press and hold one of the app icons as usual until it shakes. Now move it a small bit on the screen and hold it there. Now tap the other apps you want to move with another finger. They are automatically added as a batch to the first app. Now you can move all at once. If you place the apps in the new home location, the stack just jumps apart. Now all you have to do is put the little heap in order.

Don’t be too hasty

The first move can be a bit tricky. With iPhones with 3D Touch – that’s most of the models that came out between 2015 and 2018 – you can’t press too hard, you just have to hold gently for a long time. Some fingertip feeling is also required when moving. If you don’t move the first app far enough, the other apps cannot be stacked. Also, it’s easy to accidentally create a folder if you park the app icon too close to the center of another.

Unfortunately, the trick doesn’t work on every iPhone. Apple only introduced it with the iOS 11 system. Support for 32-bit processors was removed with the system, so all iPhones from the iPhone 5 and older did not receive the update.

As time went by, iOS got more and more features. You can find the best hidden features of iOS 16 in this photo series.
