iPhone SE 4: New information about the next entry-level iPhone

Apple wants to use the chassis of the standard iPhone 14 model as the basis for the upcoming iPhone SE 4. Walk away Sources from Macrumors from – and confirm previous rumors.

The well-known “Flat Design” is adopted and the old iPhone 7 form factor is finally abandoned. At the moment, the SE 4 test devices are practically indistinguishable from the iPhone 14, it was said. This would finally mean an end to the use of the home button. Instead, Face ID facial recognition is integrated, which has been around since the iPhone X. The display is 6.1 inches. There will only be a single 48-megapixel camera on the back.

As with the iPhone 14, Apple also uses aluminum (6013 T5) for the frame. Prototypes are said to have been available in black, among other things, which is reminiscent of the “midnight” color on the iPhone 14, Macrumors further reported. The weight of the iPhone SE 4 is said to be 165 grams, slightly less than the 172 grams of the iPhone 14 – the reason is probably the lack of a second camera sensor. The iPhone SE 4 will also have a USB-C port (instead of Lightning) and possibly even an action button like the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

As usual, Apple is expected to install a (relatively) current SoC in the new SE so that it stays up to date for as long as possible. There is also a new 5G modem, which is still expected to finally come from Apple itself for the first time. That’s exactly the reason why the SE 4 may not appear until 2025, because development is making slow progress here. A revised OLED screen is also conceivable.

All leaked information comes from pre-production devices, so Apple can still change the functionality. However, it seems impossible that the SE 4 is only used as a device for modem tests. Apple is said to still be planning an entry-level model. It wouldn’t be unusual for the SE 4 to appear three years after the SE 3 – the SE models always come onto the market irregularly. The SE 3 was released in March 2022 and brought, among other things, an A15 Bionic plus 5G support for the first time – and all of this, as mentioned, in an outdated form factor.
