iPhone 16: a tour of the new features of a very modified design

The iPhone 16 would mark a new stage in the evolution of the design of this range with new buttons and a rearranged photo block. At least that is what emerges from the synthesis information obtained so far by MacRumorsbased on different prototypes tested by Apple.

Several of these changes had already been outlined in previous rumors from the same site. Three options are detailed: the green/yellow model represents the oldest design tested, with an Action button taken from the iPhone 15 Pro, a unified volume button and a vertical photo block reminiscent of that of the iPhone X/Xs.

The pink design has the Action button, two separate volume buttons while the black model uses a larger Action button and a new “Capture” button placed on the bottom of the right edge.

The unified volume button, which was once thought to be based on a capacitive system for the iPhone 15 Pro, would ultimately be mechanical and in two parts. As for the Action button that appeared with the 15 Pro, it would be generalized across the entire range next year. Its size could be enlarged and it is not excluded that it becomes capacitive – it is mechanical today – with haptic feedback to simulate pressure.

The role of the additional button located on the right is still unclear. There would be a pressure sensor and a “tact-switching” function (a sort of tactile switch) but the site does not know what this means in concrete terms. In addition, its position is intriguing, regardless of how you hold the phone. Another design would be on the way, without this button, if it turns out that its focus is problematic.

The designs and tracks described here are always subject to possible changes. Development is not set in stone at this stage.
