Apple presented the new generation of iPhone at its September event. All models of the iPhone 15 make a noticeable jump – but one is a lot bigger.

It has been Apple’s most important event of the year for years: in September, the company presents its box office hits for the next year. And this time too there was a lot to show at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. As in previous years, the group presented four new models iPhones. The star of the evening: the new iPhone 15 Pro Max.

But first things first. Like last year, the lineup consists of two iPhone lines, each in two sizes. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus form the entry-level segment, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max form the premium segment. The standard models each have a screen diagonal of 6.1 inches, the two oversizes have a screen diagonal of 6.7 inches.

All models get one of the biggest innovations: For the first time since the iPhone 5, Apple is replacing the connector on the bottom. Instead of their own Lightning port, the new iPhone 15 rely on USB-C – and can finally be charged with the same cable as notebooks, Android smartphones or even the iPad. The question of a suitable Apple cable is finally eliminated.

These are iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus

Even at first glance, it is noticeable that the entry-level iPhones are now on par with last year’s premium models: iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus now also have the pill-shaped recess in the display called Dynamic Island. It not only inherits the notch, but also offers all sorts of practical additional functions in everyday life. Above all, it shows at a glance that you have the newer model.

A lot has also happened technically. While the entry-level models lacked a processor last year, they now also get the A16 chip. This not only makes the devices faster, but above all ensures longer runtime. Of course, Apple has also improved the camera. Thanks to the 48 megapixel camera, it not only offers higher resolution images, but also some other camera tricks. This allows the device to combine more details with high resolution and better colors. For example, it can achieve a 2x optical zoom without needing another lens.

The colors available are black, white, blue, yellow and a new color called “coral” between pink and orange.

iPhone 15 Pro: more premium features

The difference is bigger with the iPhone 15 Pro. It starts with the design: They are the first iPhones to be manufactured with a titanium frame, making them not only more stable but also lighter than their predecessors. And: The frame also becomes visibly narrower and can hardly be seen from the front.

Probably to emphasize the titanium look, Apple has also decided on a new color selection: Instead of black or gold, there is now a kind of gray scale, from a very light, almost white silver gray, to a new, very chic medium gray tone to the well-known space gray. The whole thing is rounded off by an elegant, slightly grayish dark blue.

Of course, the Pro models also get a new processor with the new A17 Pro chip. It’s so fast that even upcoming console games like “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” can suddenly run on the iPhone without any restrictions.

As in recent years, the camera is the main argument for switching to the Pro model. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has an additional treat to offer: For the first time, Apple is using a significantly stronger telescopic lens. After the company recently only strengthened the telescope lens in small steps, the Max model can now optically zoom in up to five times. To do this, Apple, like its competitors Samsung and Huawei, uses a kind of periscope that is placed through the device parallel to the display. That also explains why the small Pro model doesn’t get the feature: it simply doesn’t have enough space.

Finally a price reduction

One of the best news of the evening was the prices: All iPhones have become cheaper across the board. The iPhone 15 costs 949 instead of 999 euros, the price of the iPhone 15 Plus drops from 1149 to 1099 euros. And the iPhone 15 Pro even drops by 100 euros with a new price of 1,199 euros. Only the top model, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, does not have a new price at 1449 euros at first glance. However, you get more for the money than before: Instead of 128, there is now 256 gigabytes of storage for the price.
