Criminal investigations into former US President Trump and his company are pending. Two prosecutors who played a leading role in the case have resigned.

Two chief prosecutors have resigned from the investigation into former US President Donald Trump and his company. A spokeswoman for the Manhattan Attorney’s Office confirmed this, but gave no reasons for the resignation.

As the “New York Times” reports, prosecutors Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz are said to have fallen out with District Attorney Alvin Bragg. He is said to have doubted that further investigations into the business practices of the Trump Organization would still make sense. However, Bragg’s spokeswoman emphasized that further investigations are being carried out.

Prosecutors were in charge of the investigation

The two prosecutors played a leading role in the investigations under Bragg’s predecessor from the outset. Last July, they ensured that the Trump Organization’s longtime chief financial officer was indicted on suspicion of tax fraud. Dunne had also argued before the Supreme Court that Trump must disclose his tax return.

Bragg took over as district attorney in January, emphasizing the importance of Dunne and Pomerantz to the investigation.

The Manhattan Attorney’s office’s criminal investigation is independent of the New York State civil investigation into the Trump Organization.
