Investigations against Cologne’s Cardinal Woelki – Opinion

It can always be one turn worse: the Cologne public prosecutor’s office has now initiated preliminary proceedings against the Archbishop of Cologne, Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki. There is a suspicion that he is said to have given a false affidavit in a press law procedure. Woelki had assured that he had only been dealing with allegations of abuse against the late Sternsinger boss Winfried Pilz from the end of June 2022. A former employee of the Archdiocese’s personnel manager now contradicts this in an interview with the Cologne city gazette. She says she dealt with Woelki in 2015.
