Interview with the percussionist and singer Miroca Paris – Munich

Miroca Paris was born into a Cape Verdean musical dynasty, his uncle Tito is one of the most famous singers and guitarists. At 19, the dream of every Cape Verdean musician came true: he became a percussionist in the band of the legendary Cesaria Evora. He stayed with her until her death, eventually also as musical director. Since then he has worked for many stars, from Mariza and Sara Tavares to Sona Jobarteh and Angélique Kidjo, to Rui Veloso, Aline Frazão and – Madonna. But now the “rhythm innovator,” as many call him, is stepping into the limelight himself. In the spirit of the great “barefoot singer” Cesaria Evora, he presents in the amp his own new blend of Cape Verdean music with other styles.
