The chair of Archbishop of Bamberg has been vacant for more than a year since Archbishop Ludwig Schick resigned from the office on All Saints’ Day 2022. Shortly before Christmas, Pope Francis appointed Auxiliary Bishop Herwig Gössl as the new archbishop, who will lead the diocese as diocesan administrator. He will be officially inducted into his new position on March 2nd.
