The mass protests in Belarus were two years ago, and the philosopher and activist Olga Shparaga has been living in exile in Berlin ever since. A conversation about art, democracy and Putin’s war.

The Belarusian philosopher and feminist Olga Shparaga, born in Minsk in 1974, took part in the 2020 mass protests against the dictator Alexander Lukashenko, who is closely allied with Putin. She published the book “The Revolution Has a Female Face. The Case of Belarus” (2021). She had to flee her country to avoid imprisonment for her involvement in the pro-democracy movement. She currently lives in exile in Berlin.
