Interview with RWE boss Krebber: “Bavaria is not yet where it could be” – Economy

RWE boss Markus Krebber is currently restructuring Germany’s largest electricity producer: away from nuclear power and coal and towards renewable energies. He expects rising costs for consumers – and denounces the slow expansion of green electricity in southern Germany.

Markus Krebber, 50, welcomes people on the third floor of the RWE campus in Essen, the headquarters of Germany’s largest electricity producer. The former banker and McKinsey consultant has been head of the DAX company since 2021. RWE was long considered a dirty nuclear and coal company, and not just by environmentalists. But the last nuclear power plant went offline in April, and brown coal is expected to end in 2030. Instead, Krebber, who is said to have good connections with the federal government, is investing in wind and solar parks. Now he is looking forward to the Christmas holidays. He takes the train to Austria with his family, not the car or the plane.
