The director and Oscar winner Pedro Almodóvar reports via zoom from the offices of his production company in Madrid. The 72-year-old has tousled white hair, wears a yellow hoodie and speaks an adorable mix of English and Spanish during the interview. He proves once again that he is one of the best filmmakers of our time with his new film “Parallel Mothers” (Theatrical release on March 10). In it, he tells the story of Janis, a woman who becomes a mother late in life as she struggles to solve the crimes of the Franco dictatorship by campaigning for the exhumation of a mass grave near her home village. Hardly anyone can weave love and politics, past and present as elegantly as Almodóvar.
