It was only after a long period of friction that Charles von Faber-Castell and his three half-sisters Katharina, 32, Victoria and Sarah (both 25) agreed to be the ninth generation to take on responsibility for the 260-year-old pen dynasty. Charles Graf von Faber-Castell, 41, asked for the first interview in the family castle in Stein near Nuremberg in the Javanese room. It is furnished with ornate consoles, cabinets and tables from the Indonesian island. Ottilie and Alexander von Faber-Castell bought the furniture at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. A suitable place to talk about tradition – and about the future.
