Interpol on tour: concert in the Muffathalle – Munich

Since 1997 was Interpol not only the police association made famous by Ede Zimmermann’s criminal hunt, but also a powerful name for a New York band – favorites of all knowledgeable fans of the passionately cool, from John “BBC” Peel to David Lynch to the soundtrack makers of cool series like “Six Feed Under”. Finally for the seventh album “The Other Side of Make-Believe” their singer Paul Banks can really play the policeman. In the two related videos (directed by Van Alpert) for the melancholic hits “Toni” and “Something changed”, the singer is a cop.

In an old US patrol car, he observes this love story staged in dance in the gang milieu – and one does not know whether he is a ticking time bomb or a guardian angel.

This perfectly reflects the dangerously romantic post-punk that the perfectionist trio noir uses Joy Division, Gang of Four and TheSmith connects. They always end up siding with the good guys. And despite the horrors of the time, they have hope: “The nobleness of the human spirit is to recover,” says Banks.

Interpol, Thursday, June 15, 8 p.m., Munich, Muffahalle
