Almost anything can be posted on the internet. But there are guidelines on social platforms. Youtube has now published how many videos were deleted and why.

Google’s video platform Youtube removed more content in Germany last year. Up from 315,532 videos in 2021, there were 432,546 posts, according to YouTube’s transparency report. In the final quarter of 2022, the number jumped from 48,326 to 179,183 year-on-year.

The service removed a good 5.66 million videos worldwide in the fourth quarter of last year. Most of them – almost 5.3 million – were automatically detected by software. More than a third were removed before users first viewed them. When it came to the reasons for removing videos, child protection was the top priority at 34 percent, followed by harmful or dangerous content at just over 17 percent.

In the whole of last year, YouTube deleted almost 19.65 million videos worldwide after a good 25.8 million in 2021.
