Slow and error-prone: German internet connections perform poorly in a European comparison. The users still seem satisfied.

The speed of private internet connections in According to a Deloitte survey, Germany is particularly slow compared to Western Europe. According to the management consultancy’s results published today, Germany performed worst among the seven most populous countries in Western Europe.

Only 27 percent of the 2,000 respondents from the Federal Republic stated that they surfed with a bandwidth of at least 250 megabits per second (Mbit/s). In Spain, the leader, this proportion is more than twice as large.

Not only is the speed of internet connections comparatively worse in Germany, but according to the survey, people in Germany also most often struggle with the reliability of their connection. Almost a third of those surveyed have connection problems at least once a month.

Germany in last place

The management consultants state that Germany is in last place here too. However, the differences between the compared countries when it comes to connection problems are significantly smaller. Although France leads the comparison, around a quarter of those surveyed there also have problems connecting at least once a month.

Nevertheless, over three quarters of those surveyed in Germany are satisfied with their DSL provider, according to the survey results. Satisfaction is not much lower than among those who already have a fiber optic connection (84 percent). The management consultants suspect that faster transfer rates have not yet been possible for many applications and therefore do not make much of a difference for users.

According to Deloitte, around 13,000 participants from the seven most populous countries in Western Europe were asked online about their internet connections for the representative survey.
