Intel promises a noticeable fps boost for DX11 games

Intel’s graphics department issues a GPU driver update for the third quarter and compares it to the launch driver. Based on new measurements with an Arc A750 LE and a Core i5-13400F, Intel wants to prove that the frame rates for DX11 games have now increased by 19 percent.

When it comes to news about Intel’s new dedicated graphics cards, things have been relatively quiet. The first Arc generation of Alchemist GPUs seems to be complete, the rumor mill is keeping a low profile about further new releases. Next year, Battlemage, the second GPU generation, is supposed to knock on the door, which could already be ready to compete with current graphics cards from the competition.

New driver guarantees fps jumps in DX11 games

Intel has now released an official update for the latest GPU driver, with which the chip manufacturer wants to highlight the performance differences compared to last year’s launch driver. The focus is on DirectX 11 titles, some of which Intel has tested with an Arc A750 LE and a Core i5-13400F. So how has the outcome evolved since the launch driver? Intel has the answer, namely an average of 19 percent more fps (measured at 1080p). According to Intel, it was 12 percent more with a Core i9-13900K.

What seems illogical at first is buried in the type of driver optimization: The graphics card is CPU-limited more often on the 13400F than on the 13900K, so the optimized driver is more useful here. We haven’t tested it yet, but we suspect that the DXVK wrapper will now also be implemented for DirectX 11 – as explained in detail here. It fits that Intel speaks of a per-application optimization. Only a few games are currently adapted, more are to follow in the coming months.

The highest proportional increase was found in the new Overwatch 2. There was a boost in the frame rate from 138 to 183 fps, which corresponds to an increase of about a third. In GTA Online and GTA 5 alike, the increases are said to have been 27 percent each, 20 percent according to Intel in Dota 2 and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. According to Intel’s measurements, the percentiles increased by an average of 20 percent compared to the launch driver.
