When Martina Etterich answered her cell phone in the late afternoon of January 11, 2019, the world was still fine for her. Until her husband, Peter Schmidt, called her from the hospital. “Something bad happened. Everything is broken. Nothing can be saved,” he said and told how he wanted to light the candles on the Christmas tree one last time in the morning.
