Insolvent airport: Russian investor buys Hahn Airport

The insolvent Hahn Airport in Rhineland-Palatinate was dem SWR sold – to the holding company of the Nürburgring. This is how the Russian oligarch Charitonin gets into the airport.

There is information from the insolvent Hunsrück Airport Hahn in Rhineland-Palatinate SWR and according to media reports, found a new buyer: NR Holding, owner of the Nürburgring. And the main owner behind it is Russian investor Viktor Charitonin.

As the dpa news agency reports, a notarial contract for the sale of the airport was signed – for the price of 20 million euros. The sum is said to have already been deposited in a so-called escrow account.

Kharitonin, a pharmaceuticals entrepreneur, is unaffected by sanctions imposed on Russia and Russian oligarchs as a result of the invasion of Ukraine.

Sale not officially confirmed yet

The sale has not yet been officially confirmed by Jan Markus Plathner, the insolvency administrator responsible for Hahn Airport, or by NR Holding. Compared to the SWR Plather only referred to a creditors’ meeting next Tuesday, which should deal with the sale of the airport.

Filed for bankruptcy in October 2021

Actually, a sale of the airport already seemed sealed last June. At that time she went Swift Conjoy GmbH in Frankfurt with the highest offer from the bidding war, a notarial contract was also signed here. However, the agreed purchase price has not been paid to this day. According to dpa, Plathner is now considering claiming damages against Swift Conjoy.

NR Holding was also one of the bidders for Hahn Airport last year. The former US military airport in the Hunsrück with a rare night flight permit filed for bankruptcy in October 2021. The federal state of Hesse acquired a 17.5 percent stake in Hahn Airport a long time ago.
