Insolvencies – Despite Corona, no wave of bankruptcies – Economy

Berlin – Despite the Omicron wave, there is no sign of a sharp increase in company bankruptcies in Germany. The number of standard insolvencies applied for fell by 17.2 percent from December to January, as announced by the Federal Statistical Office on Thursday. Standard insolvency proceedings are considered an early indicator of corporate insolvencies. For these, final data are only available until November 2021. The Association of Insolvency Administrators (VID) does not expect a significant increase. “The wave of insolvencies that has been announced many times is not in sight,” said VID boss Christoph Niering. The number of insolvencies had fallen significantly as a result of temporary special statutory regulations and economic aid. The extension of the short-time allowance and the extension of the bridging aid IV stabilized the economic situation of many companies plagued by the pandemic.
