Insider: Habeck approves Viessmann deal – economy

There are no objections in the Federal Ministry of Economics to the planned takeover of the heat pump division of the Hessian Viessmann group by US rival Carrier Global. The heating engineer announced in April that it would sell its air conditioning division to Carrier Global. As part of an investment review, the so-called clearance certificate has now been issued, insiders told the Reuters news agency. The Handelsblatt had reported about it first. According to the insiders, the ministry approves the acquisition on condition that the site security agreements are met. These clauses were very clear and the main reason for the approval.

The ministry declined to comment on the case. Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) had already said at the end of April about the twelve billion euro deal that production capacities in Germany should be expanded. In its heating technology division, Viessmann was looking for an attractive product but a financially strong partner. The medium-sized company’s heat pumps should become cheaper over time with the new capital from the US group. Heat pumps play a key role in the conversion of the building sector to climate-friendly systems, especially from the perspective of the Greens. The transaction excludes redundancies for three years. In addition, there is a five-year guarantee for the main production, research and development sites.
