According to authorities, four people were seriously injured in a gondola crash in Ötztal, Austria. Apparently a tree had fallen on the support cable of the Acherkogelbahn gondola.

A gondola crashed in a popular ski resort in Austria. Four people were seriously injured, the police said. The accident occurred on the Acherkogelbahn in the Tyrolean Ötztal. “The rescue of the injured is currently underway,” the statement said. Nothing is yet known about the identity of the injured.

According to initial findings, a tree fell on the support cable of the eight-person gondola, causing it to fall into the depths. The police emphasized that it was apparently not a technical defect.

The railway was temporarily taken out of service due to the incident. According to the mountain railway company, the other passengers are now on the mountain or back in the valley.
