Sometimes rock-solid beliefs crumble. It never occurred to Carlo Urbinati to buy another company. The finance-driven takeovers in the design industry repelled the established lighting manufacturer from near Venice. “We cannot be Foscarini and someone else at the same time” was his creed. But then a train passed him in Marcon that he couldn’t let pass him. Why not? “Because of Ingo,” says the designer quietly.
