Some influencers are currently preaching on social networks not to drink water anymore. Instead, you should only consume liquid from fruit. The German Society for Nutrition warns of the trend.

Whenever you think it can’t get any more absurd, some influencer develops the next questionable trend. This time it is: #nowater. Some influencers have decided to stop drinking water. According to their own statements, they saw through the water industry. This wants to make them believe that they have to drink a lot of water, although that is not necessary. Think the influencers. Using the hashtag #nowater, they describe the supposedly positive effects on their health since they stopped drinking conventional water.

Influencer Sophie Prana, who calls herself “pimpyourprana” on Instagram, proudly claims that she hasn’t had a drink in a year. As she writes on Instagram, she only drinks “living water”. For the influencer, living water is everything that naturally contains water, such as fruit.

Other influencers like Alise Miksta do the same. Miksta emphasizes on her account how important it is to drink liquid – but only “living liquid” from fruit.

Prana lists how things have improved for her since she stopped drinking tap and bottled water: she has better skin, no more swollen eyes and no more food allergies. The message to her more than 18,000 subscribers is now: “You don’t need water to stay hydrated. It just makes you feel bloated. When you start fasting, you quickly realize that your body doesn’t need water.”

“Every adult should drink 1.5 liters of water a day”

The German Society for Nutrition sees it differently. “Adults should drink around 1.5 liters of water every day,” nutritionist Silke Restemeyer told NEON. She warns of the consequences of not drinking enough water. “The body can then no longer adequately excrete urinary substances and the supply of oxygen and nutrients to muscle and brain cells is restricted. Headaches, reduced physical performance and constipation can be the result.”

RTL nutritionist Nora Rieder has found a reason why certain problems may have improved with yoga teacher and influencer Sophie Prana. This is not due to the fact that she has dispensed with classic water. “This is the case with every form of fasting,” Rieder clarifies. “The fact that she is getting rid of her puffy eyes will be largely due to the low-salt diet, no processed foods and the high levels of antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables.”

These problems could also be solved without giving up water. “She would probably get the same effect with a low-salt, anti-inflammatory diet with lots of low-sodium water.”
