Inflation: one-off payments won’t solve the problem – Opinion

In order to prevent a wage-price spiral, Chancellor Scholz proposes tax-free one-off payments to the social partners. But in doing so, the state is interfering in a field that it should avoid if possible – with far-reaching consequences.

After Vladimir Putin let him appear at the notorious long table in the Kremlin in mid-February, Chancellor Olaf Scholz now wants to achieve success at another table. Speaking to the assembled German industry last week, he said that the federal government, the employers and the unions would now sit down at the “social table of reason”.
