Joachim Lang has been General Manager of the German Industry Association for almost five years. Now he wants to devote himself to new tasks.

The general manager of the Federation of German Industries, Joachim Lang, wants to leave the association. This was announced by Lang and BDI President Siegfried Russwurm in a joint statement on Monday in Berlin.

“Dr. Lang will ask the vice presidents and the executive committee of the BDI at its next meeting on February 21, 2022 to have his appointment revoked in order to devote himself to new tasks outside the association in the future,” both explained. “This is done in full mutual appreciation of those involved.” The “world” had previously reported about it.

Until a successor is appointed, the other members of the main management should lead the association under Russwurm’s coordination, as the BDI announced.

Lang explained in writing that he enjoyed his office very much and valued the cooperation with other BDI managers: “After five intensive and fulfilling years in office, I have decided to pursue new content-related and professional goals.”

Russwurm said they regret and respect Lang’s wish. “He has led the BDI with great care and great personal commitment over the past few years. During his term of office, topics such as Brexit, the positioning of the BDI in questions of climate protection and most recently the federal elections and the change of government, which placed high demands on the positioning of the BDI and its work on content. » In addition, the pandemic recently came.

Born in 1967, Lang has been a member of the BDI’s executive board since December 2016 and its chief executive since April 2017. Before that he was Head of Arms Control Law at the Federal Ministry of Defence, worked in the Secretariat of the Bundesrat, for the First Parliamentary Secretary of the Union faction in the Bundestag and in the Chancellery. He then worked for the energy company Eon for many years.
