Again, more bakeries disappeared last year than new ones were added. A little more than 9,600 bakeries were entered in the handicraft register at the end of 2022, the Central Association of the German Bakery Trade announced on Monday. That was around 3.6 percent less than in the previous year. 780 bakery companies disappeared from the market. There were only 422 start-ups in the same period. After all: In 2021 only 380 new companies were added. Young entrepreneurs in particular are taking the future into their own hands and are confident about the future despite the difficult conditions of the past year, said association president Michael Wippler.
