The new “Indiana Jones” strip hit the cinemas at the end of June. So far, however, the crowds have apparently stayed away…

Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny” apparently didn’t really get off the ground well internationally, even if the strip managed to secure number one in the cinema charts in this country.

Still a meager result worldwide so far

The film, which opened in cinemas in the past few weeks, played $60 million, according to Deadline (about 56 million euros) in a total of 4,600 US cinemas, worldwide it was 130 million US dollars (about 119 million euros). That’s ten million fewer than predicted, according to the US industry portal. The film’s theatrical release was also described there as a “disastrous outcome” for a film in this popular franchise.

For comparison, the film magazine cites that the fan-favorite 2008 film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull grossed $272.1 million worldwide.

“Difficult start”

The current fifth part of the franchise by director James Mangold (59) is said to have cost around 300 million US dollars (around 275 million euros). Also with the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter” It says it’s “a tough start for the fifth and final installment in the acclaimed adventure-action series starring Harrison Ford.”

The hope now is that the coming days, including the 4th of July holiday, will bring growth for the film in the US.

At the top of the cinema

In Germany, “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny” has meanwhile conquered the top of the cinema charts.

The film, starring Harrison Ford (80), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (37), Mads Mikkelsen (57) and Thomas Kretschmann (60), has attracted 330,000 visitors to the cinemas since it officially opened on June 29, according to an official Communication.
