At least nine people have died when a Hindu temple collapsed due to heavy rain in India. The search for other injured people is still ongoing.

During heavy rains during the current monsoon season, in India a Hindu temple collapsed. At least nine people were killed, the head of government of the affected state of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, wrote on Monday on platform X, which was formerly known as Twitter. The rescue work continued. A search is being made for other people who may be under the rubble.

At the weekend, the head of government posted pictures of a flooded street and fallen trees in connection with the heavy rains in parts of his state. He called on people not to go near rivers and other bodies of water.

Monsoon season not only claims fatalities in India

Heavy rain, triggering violent flooding and landslides, is normal during the monsoon season in South Asia. The monsoon usually lasts from June to September. The damage is often great: houses are washed away and there are always fatalities. At the same time, the rain is important for agriculture, from which a large part of the population lives.
