An incidence rate that has tripled in ten days
Professor Michel Carles, infectious disease specialist at the University Hospital of Nice, warned at the end of June “of a new wave at our door” during an interview with 20 Minutes. Indeed, despite encouraging indicators in May, the Alpes-Maritimes have known for two weeks, an increase in the number of positive cases for Covid-19, it stood at 76 this Tuesday evening. In ten days, the incidence rate tripled in the metropolis of Nice, going from 19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 60, then exceeding the alert threshold set at 50.
In its update on the epidemic, the Regional Agency (ARS) Paca alerted this Tuesday evening: “The positivity rate increases (1.1% in week 27) as the regional incidence rate which doubles every week”. Before specifying: “The increase in incidence rates is very significant among 15-30 year olds, which clearly exceeds 100 per 100,000 inhabitants and even 200 / 100,000 among 20-25 year olds (versus 82 in week 26). “
Focus on vaccination
Walk-in injections for all, a “trust” label for restaurants and shops where all staff are vaccinated … in the Nice metropolis, initiatives to encourage the reluctant population to get vaccinated have followed one another since the beginning of July . The health pass, compulsory in new places from August, has given hesitant people a little boost.
“During the night we recorded around 10,000 new registrations on the appointment-making platform,” said Véronique Borré, head of the health, environmental and risk management agency which manages vaccine logistics in Nice morning, the day after Emmanuel Macron’s announcements.
A craze also noted at the Cap 3000 shopping center in Saint-Laurent-du-Var. More than 70 people were waiting on Tuesday in front of the vaccination point set up by the firefighters, half an hour before the opening.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, 613,002 people had received at least one dose of the vaccine, or 55.85% of the inhabitants. In the region, 47% of the population received a complete vaccination schedule.
The variant and hospitalizations
In the Paca region, the proportion of variants carrying the L452R mutation, the Delta variant, is increasing sharply and stands at 79%, against 61% nationally.
The ARS nevertheless indicates that “all hospital indicators are decreasing, with a decrease in the total number of hospitalized people and in the total number of people in critical care service compared to the previous week. “
