Police in Gdansk find three dead newborns in a neglected house – and then arrest a 20-year-old woman and her father. Both are being investigated not only for murder, but also for incest. Father and daughter are said to have lived together as a couple for years.

Police found the bodies of three newborn babies in the basement of a neglected single-family home in Pomerania. A 20-year-old woman and her 54-year-old father were arrested, the public prosecutor’s office in Gdansk announced. The woman is being investigated for incest and double murder of newborns, and the man is being investigated for double incest and triple murder of newborns. He is also said to have had an incestuous relationship with another daughter.

According to Polish media reports, one of the infants found came from this relationship. On Friday evening, the police found two dead newborns in the village of Czerniki, southwest of Gdansk. “They were buried in the basement. There was no floor there, just tamped clay, so they could be dug up. The bodies were in various stages of decomposition,” a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office told the portal of the Polish tabloid “Fakt”. This Saturday morning, investigators found the third dead infant. In the evening, the police were still at the crime scene and were looking for possible additional baby bodies, as the PAP news agency reported.

According to media information, father and daughter had lived together as a couple for years. “She called him Piotr, by his first name. They walked hand in hand. A few months ago he shaved her head so that the other boys wouldn’t run after her,” a woman from the neighboring village told “Fakt”. A video on the news portal shows that the family apparently lived in a neglected and almost dilapidated house.

The anonymous witness reported that her work colleagues had suspected some time ago that the woman was pregnant. She wore loose clothing and apparently wanted to hide her stomach. She took vacation three weeks ago. When she returned to work after a week, she appeared exhausted but rejected questions about having a child. Someone then informed the social welfare office, whose employees contacted the police.
