in Vendée, the town of La Faute-sur-mer will lose its name

It is known throughout France for the catastrophic passage of storm Xynthia, which caused the death of 29 people on the night of February 27 to 28, 2010. More than eleven years after the tragedy, the town of
La Faute-sur-Mer, in the south of Vendée, is about to change its name permanently. The municipal councils of La Faute-sur-Mer and its neighbor
L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer have indeed started a process of merging the two municipalities for the benefit of one and the same new municipality. The latter will take office on January 1, 2022.

But first, a new name had to be found for the new entity. A consultation was launched in June with the inhabitants. Three names were proposed: Cap d’Arçay, Les Pointes-sur-Mer and L’Aiguillon-La-Presqu’île. It is the latter who received the most votes. “Following this consultation, the elected officials also decided to retain the same name”, city councils announce.

The municipality of L’Aiguillon-La-Presqu’île will therefore be inducted in 2022, after validation by the prefect. The names of La Faute-sur-Mer and L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer will however remain inscribed on certain signs as delegated municipalities.
