With summer, the coastal beaches are taken by storm, as are the hiking trails of the Pyrenees. Tourists who for some have chosen to invest in a pied à terre. And many do so in Occitanie because, according to an INSEE study, it leads the French regions for the number of second homes, ahead of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and concentrates 16% of housing in this type of metropolis.
In 2017, there were more than 501,000 second homes, or 13.5% of the stock in the region, one in seven. Some are buying it to take advantage of their weekend or prepare for retirement, but “with the crisis new uses are appearing: owning a second home makes it possible to be confined outside the big cities or to telework in a pleasant environment ”, note the authors of this study.

And the owners are not the same whether we are in the sea or in the mountains. There are more on the coast (41% of the park) than in the Pyrenees (22%), but those in the mountains are more popular with residents of Occitania, while those by the sea are appreciated by inhabitants of other countries. regions, or even foreigners for 15% of the park.
