In the middle of Ismaning – dress rehearsal for the Christmas tree – district of Munich

Christmas is only two months from now, but the preparations obviously cannot be started early enough. Spekulatius and gingerbread are already on display in supermarkets at the end of August, and a few weeks ago various advent calendars were added, filled with chocolate, cosmetics or tea creations. Can’t be long, then the Santa Clauses and angels made from nougat also look around the corner.

In Ismaning you are one step further, although the golden October is currently showing its most beautiful side. There, the building yard has already started to get the Christmas lights out of the warehouse and put them up. The first thing to do is to go to the stately tree in front of the senior citizens’ housing complex near the train station. In bright sunshine and 20 degrees in the shade, two employees on an extendable lifting platform at heavenly heights have been busy decorating the tall fir tree with fairy lights for two days, while the last roses are blooming in the bed next door. Taken together, these LED-equipped garlands are more than a kilometer long and consist of six electrical circuits. A sure instinct is required, there shouldn’t be a mess, after all, the Christmas tree is considered to be the most beautiful in the whole place.

In view of the almost late summer temperatures, the men from the building yard work up a sweat and even the mostly sun-glasses and airily clad passers-by can hardly believe what they are seeing on this bright morning. Is it already Christmas today? This question is written on the face of many of them. Above all, a little girl who comes by with her grandpa is visibly fascinated by the pre-Christmas spectacle and doesn’t want to go any further. Who knows, maybe you can catch a glimpse of the Christkindl. But of course you can’t see that. Not yet. Whether all the lights on the pine tops are sitting correctly and working properly must be checked before his arrival. And only once at dawn the next day, before the building yard pulls the plug again by the first Advent.
