“In the Gardens or Lysistrata 2” at the Munich Volkstheater – Culture

You wouldn’t easily think of Christian Stückl and Sibylle Berg together. He, the traditional Bavarian, passionately flammable director of the Munich Volkstheater, she, the extra-cool writer from the GDR who has earned the reputation of a “prophet of doom” with her sharp-tongued, cynical texts – they live, work and think in very different bubbles . In this respect, the announcement that Stückl would direct Berg’s play “In the Gardens or Lysistrata Part 2” was somewhat surprising. But Stückl always has his finger on the pulse of the times and politics, and so the gender ban recently imposed by Markus Söder had a decisive influence on the choice of topic.
