“In the Garden of Earthly Delights” at the Ruhrtriennale: Make yourself useless – culture

The “Burning Man” festival in the desert doesn’t necessarily have to be a gigantic eco-mess for tens of thousands of SUV drivers who record almost naked women dancing under drugs for their Instagram channels. It can also have culture, at least when director Philippe Quesne creates his own “Burning Man”. His guests arrive with a white bus as a stage, and at the center of their desert circle they place not a giant man, but an empty dinosaur egg. Nor is their circle a precisely marked circle of cars and tents, like in Nevada, but an oval made of plastic chairs in which the most bizarre contributions are listened to with the greatest patience.
