In the case of Claudia Obermeier, who was killed in Middle Franconia in 1990, investigators are now concentrating on a break-in at a construction site in Nuremberg. According to witness statements, the break-in is connected to the murder of the then 22-year-old in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz. For this reason, the police have also hung posters asking for information about the case in the east of Nuremberg – and thus in the entire area between the crime scene and the place of the break-in, as a spokesman for the Middle Franconia police headquarters said. The investigators hope this will provide crucial information.
The police in Nuremberg have now received more than 100 tips. However, there has not yet been any concrete evidence of a break-in at the construction site, said the spokesman. The majority of the information was received after the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY… Unsolved” at the beginning of November.
A walker discovered Claudia Obermeier’s body in a forest in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz in August 1990. According to the investigation at the time, she was the victim of a sexual offense and strangled by an unknown male perpetrator. The evening before the crime, the 22-year-old was at a party in an allotment garden with her husband. She left alone around 2 a.m. but never arrived home. Her husband came under suspicion at the time. A court acquitted him in 1998.
The criminal police recently reopened the murder after evidence from the crime scene, thanks to modern analysis methods, was able to find a DNA trace that did not match any suspect in the case. According to the police, a comparison with the DNA analysis file at the Federal Criminal Police Office showed a match to a DNA trace that was left behind during a burglary in Nuremberg 22 years later. However, this suspicion could not be substantiated.
