In recent days, the incidence rate “no longer seems to decrease”, announces Gabriel Attal

“Vigilance remains absolute and we have reasons for concern,” announced Gabriel Attal at the exit of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday. The government spokesperson thus affirmed that “for a few days, the incidence rate at the national level no longer seems to decrease”. That is to say that the number of new Covid-19 patients over a given period is no longer decreasing.

This stagnation can be explained first of all by the fact that “the lower the level and the number of contaminations, the less rapid the decline”. A reassuring criterion but which is unfortunately not the only one to explain the phenomenon. “There is also a part that worries us, it is the prospect of the Delta variant and its role in this situation”, added Gabriel Attal.

20% of current contaminations

“The Delta variant is progressing, it is even progressing very quickly. It accounted for about 10% of contaminations last week. This is a level that has doubled in less than a week. This Delta variant is 60% more contagious than the British variant, which was itself twice as contagious than the initial strain, ”detailed the government spokesperson.
