In Provence stands the last work of the architect Oscar Niemeyer – culture

Of

Andrian Kreye

It’s one of the most beautiful closing chords in the history of architecture, that Oscar Niemeyers last work now in Provence on a vineyard of Chateau La Coste stands. His pavilion was opened in early summer, almost ten years after his death. An exhibition by the London sculptor and painter Annie Morris can be seen there until November. Their roughly plastered stacks of colorful balls and archaic watercolor paintings are the ideal counterpoint to Niemeyer’s curves and window fronts. Here, too, as in his works in Brazil, they seem as if a spaceship had landed here, bringing modernity’s design language to mankind. May there always be clarity and good humor on this planet.
