Portofino (Italy), southeast of Genoa, has become a posh seaside resort. However, this influx of tourists is not without consequences for the locals. So the mayor decided and issued an order prohibiting parking on the town’s wharf.

All tourists from Cinque Terre (Italy) want to immortalize Portofino. Only, from now on, it is forbidden to stop on the quay of the commune. By official decree, if you stop walking on the platform between 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., you risk a fine of 270 euros. Tourists, interviewed by France 2 teams, are unaware of this new regulation. The measure makes holidaymakers smile, but it is very serious.

A decree in force until October 15

Tourists arrive en masse, sometimes more than 10,000, in this port of 400 inhabitants. Thus, on the pier, it becomes impossible to circulate. This situation has become untenable for the restaurants on the quay. So far, no fines have been imposed. The objective is above all to do prevention and to give a warning shot to tourist guides. “What we are aiming for with this decree are large groups”, explains Giuseppina Chiarello, the head of the municipal police. This parking ban will be in effect until October 15.
