King Charles III reportedly planning to make Princess Charlotte Duchess of Edinburgh. The king’s brother would get nothing.

The new King Charles III. (74) shaped the British monarchy according to his ideas after the death of his mother. As reported by the Daily Mail, Charles is said to be planning that Williams (40) and Kate’s (40) daughter Princess Charlotte (7) will receive the title Duchess of Edinburgh. Charlotte would succeed her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). Their father King George VI. (1895-1952) bestowed this title on his daughter on the occasion of her marriage to Prince Philip (1921-2021) in 1947. The couple then became the Duchess and Duke of Edinburgh.

Princess Charlotte is third in line to the British throne

According to “Daily Mail”, corresponding internal discussions are currently taking place in the royal family. King Charles III should therefore favor his granddaughter as Duchess of Edinburgh. “It would be a fitting way to commemorate the Queen,” said an unnamed palace insider.

Charles is also said to “honor the succession to the throne” through the planned title award. After her father Prince William and her older brother Prince George (9), Princess Charlotte is currently number three in the line of succession to the British throne. It even seems conceivable that Charlotte will succeed her brother to the throne if he remains childless.

Passes King Charles III. his brother Prince Edward?

It was generally expected that King Charles’ brother Prince Edward (58) would inherit the title of Duke of Edinburgh. But since Prince Philip’s death last year, he has been denied that honor. A source told the Daily Mail: “It shows what the king is planning. It’s about promoting those who are high in the line of succession rather than those on the fringes.”
