In Dordogne, Macron’s former advisor is a candidate despite his conviction

The campaign of Jérôme Peyrat, candidate for the legislative elections in the fourth constituency of Dordogne, promises to be short but turbulent. This former regional councilor of Aquitaine and current mayor of La Roque-Gageac was not invested by the Renaissance presidential party, as was the case in 2022 (then LREM). For the early legislative elections, the presidential party preferred to invest François Tourné, a public affairs consultant in Paris.

Aged 61, Jérôme Peyrat worked successively for Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, then Emmanuel Macron, for whom he was political advisor at the start of the first presidential term.

Domestic violence

He resigned from his position in the cabinet at the beginning of 2020 after being implicated in a case of domestic violence against his former partner. He was then sentenced in September 2020, by the Angoulême criminal court, to a suspended fine of 3,000 euros.

Jérôme Peyrat argues today that his conviction dates from four years ago and that his sentence was modest. “With what I have endured, I am no longer afraid of anything,” commented Jérôme Peyrat at the end of last week, from France Bleu.
