Oprah Winfrey attended the premiere of the new edition of “The Color Purple” and caused a stir.

Oprah Winfrey (69) didn’t miss the premiere of the remake of “The Color Purple” in Beverly Hills on Wednesday evening. The talk show host and actress starred in the previous film of the same name from 1985 directed by Steven Spielberg (76) and was even nominated for an Oscar. For the remake, Winfrey worked with Spielberg on the producing team and the duo also appeared together at the film premiere. But it wasn’t just because of her appearance with the star director that Winfrey attracted attention that evening.

The 69-year-old wore a purple robe that drew attention to her narrow waist thanks to its body-hugging cut. She combined a glittering clutch and shimmering earrings with the floor-length dress with long sleeves, a small train and a short slit. She had styled her voluminous hair into loose waves.

Oprah Winfrey on her struggle with weight

Last September, Winfrey spoke about her experiences with weight fluctuations during a panel talk in New York City. “My highest weight was 237 pounds [rund 107 Kilo, Anm. d. Red.]. “I don’t know if there’s another public figure whose struggle with weight has been as widely publicized as mine over the years,” she said according to “Today.com”. “You’ve all seen me go on diet after diet. It’s a recurring thing because my body always seems to want to go back to a certain weight.”

She also added: “We live in a world where people have always been ashamed of being overweight, and all of us who have experienced it know that people treat you differently, they just do.” People should be able to lose weight in the way that is best for them. “You should own it and not be ashamed of it. As a person who has been shamed for so many years, I’m just tired of it.”

This time, “The Color Purple” was made into a musical film by director Blitz Bazawule (41) based on the novel of the same name by Alice Walker (79). Taraji, among others, can be seen in it. P. Henson (53) and “Ariel” actress Halle Bailey (23). The film is scheduled to open in US cinemas on December 25th and come to German cinemas on February 8th, 2024.
