In Bavaria, 214 hectares of forest burned last year – Bavaria

An unusual amount of forest burned in Bavaria last year. The forest fire statistics of the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) lists a total of 145 fires on a total of 214 hectares for the Free State. This is the largest area since at least 2010. There were more fires in 2019, but only 127 hectares burned at the time.

In 2022, a particularly large number of forests burned nationwide due to the persistent drought. Compared to other federal states, Bavaria got off lightly last year: In Brandenburg, which is not even half the size, 1426 hectares burned with 523 fires, in Saxony there were 785 hectares with 217 fires.

Most fires in Bavaria occurred in July with 60, followed by 53 in August. According to statistics, a total of around 325,000 cubic meters of wood were lost as a result of the fires in Bavaria.
