“Imitating Brigitte Bardot would not have been interesting,” says Julia de Nunez

She is the revelation of the miniseries Hinny. Beginning actress Julia de Nunez was given the heavy task of embodying the iconic BB A tailor-made role since the young woman has always been compared to the actress, whom she ended up playing. On the occasion of the broadcast of the last two episodes of the series of Danièle and Christopher Thompson on France 2 this Monday at 9:05 p.m., the young actress looks back on this incredible experience.

How was the casting process?

A friend sent me the announcement for this casting. I thought it was an ad for a student short film. I did not imagine the stakes that this represented. I didn’t know anything about the project… It was little by little that I got information and realized that it was a serious project. There were lots of steps: a presentation video, a test video, self tapes – I didn’t even know what it was – and a meeting with the casting director. I had never met a casting director, I didn’t know how it was. Our interview lasted forty-five minutes. He seemed very cold and impartial. I was sure it was screwed! The next day, he called me back because he wanted to see me again for another scene. Even then, I thought I would never get the part. A few days later, he called me back telling me that Danièle and Christopher Thompson wanted to see me. They sent me the script and we met.

How did you prepare for the role?

I watched a lot of movies with her, listened to a lot of interviews and read her memoirs. But the work was not only there, it was above all necessary that I find a common energy. She is so authentic and sincere, it had to come from the belly. We couldn’t cheat. To imitate him would not have been interesting. Everyone has their own truth, theirs is not mine. It was about trying to find a bridge between her and me, and embodying her with my own body and voice.

Have you taken dance lessons?

I was not particularly a seasoned dancer. I took a lot of classical dance lessons, which was not easy, because normally, we start very young like her, who started as a child, hence this head bearing and her incredible look. I also took mambo and flamenco lessons. It was great, it helped me a lot.

During this shoot, what did you learn about Brigitte Bardot that moved, amused or touched you the most?

I knew what Brigitte Bardot represented in her time. I realized the impact it still has today. She really pioneered an incredible thing for women. She never claimed, nor was an activist, but she embodied that. And I was honored to embody it.

If you were to meet Brigitte Bardot, what would be the best compliment she could give you about the series?

It is complicated ! I would like her to find my interpretation and the way we looked at her correct. I would like that to echo in her, that she see things from her. I would love !
