Since Friday February 2, Chileans have been fighting fires which are destroying entire neighborhoods of homes in the coastal region of Valparaiso, in the center of the country. In total, 122 people died in these fires, the Chilean Forensic Service (SML) announced on Monday, specifying that only 32 bodies had been identified so far. The latest report, dating from Sunday, reported 112 deaths. These lights constitute “the greatest tragedy” in Chile since the earthquake and tsunami of 2010, which left more than 500 dead, said President Gabriel Boric on Sunday.
