At the end of June, Laurence Boccolini announced that she was leaving the presentation of Everyone wants to take its place, and a fortnight later, France 2 formalized the arrival of Jarry at the presentation of this daily meeting, on the air for seventeen years. “I had been dreaming of a game with people from everyday life for a very long time, these people I meet when leaving my shows, in public transport or in the street”, admits the host. who reveals in passing that Laurence Boccolini had the elegance to call him to tell him how happy she was that it was him, the day it was revealed in the press.
A nice balance between humor, generosity and knowledge
After Nagui (from 2006 to 2021) and the one who will present in the future The Great French Contest (from 2021 to 2023), Jarry is the third presenter to take the reins of this game. “What is interesting is to make proposals from different personalities each time, advances Alexandra Redde-Amiel, the director of entertainment and games from the France Télévisions group. Jarry offers something completely different. His signature ? A fine balance between humour, generosity and knowledge”. The 46-year-old comedian adds spontaneity, his desire to discover the people who come to play and to ensure that these “45 minutes leave them with the most positive memories possible, even if they lose”. To support his point, he evokes the first filming which began on July 17th. “In the space of three shows, I took a kick-boxing class, I did belly dancing, and we had a marriage proposal. Through the game, I want to leave room for human beings”, explains the one who will appear for the first time at the presentation of Everyone wants to take its place August 5, his birthday.
But taking control of this program did not come without fear. “You arrive in a family that is not yours, and I am a bit of an intruder who arrives in the beautiful family, so I was very afraid, he confides. Fortunately, people from the public came to see me from the second show and reassured me. In fact, I have the impression of receiving people at my house, except that we don’t eat, but we play”. And for the moment, there is no question of introducing new rules. “Everyone wants to take their place has proven itself in terms of its effectiveness and functioning. We will respect this framework of play which has 17 years of experience, ”he assures.
Innovate but not revolutionize
For the moment, Jarry especially wants to take the time to settle down. “I think of my mother, my grandmother, my uncles and aunts. I don’t want to come in and tell them that nothing looks like what they love anymore. Things have to fit in with the times so that I agree with what I want to do and that I don’t get into things too hastily”. Alexandra Redde-Amiel adds: “We have an audience that loves this game. We are here to offer, innovate but not revolutionize”.
On October 7, Jarry will begin the tour of his new one man show, Fellow. The comedian therefore organized himself accordingly. “France 2 and Effervescence, the production house, had the intelligence to let me decide on the timetable so that I could allow myself time at home with my children, time for my shows, and time to shoot this program, recognizes the one who, currently, canned six shows a day. As I like to have fun every day, it’s also a way for me not to always do the same thing”.
