Illustrated book: Hiking in the footsteps of the wild Empress Sisi

Everyone loves the wild Empress Sisi – at least that’s how it seems when you’re traveling in Vienna. The former home of Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary and her Emperor Franz Joseph is particularly popular with history-loving and nostalgic vacationers. And you can buy souvenirs with the Empress’s face everywhere. But the Austrian capital is not the only place in Europe where you can follow in Sisi’s footsteps. Or rather, hiking.

The young empress herself was happy to do that. For this she preferred to travel to Bavaria or to far away France. But there are also hiking trails in Italy where the wild empress once trudged through nature. You will find the most beautiful of them in a new illustrated book – clear, varied and with insights into the Empress’s travels, you will find new impressions from Sisi’s eventful life.

Two mountain lovers write about Sisi’s love of the mountains

The many places were compiled by the author Sandra Freudenberg and the photographer Andy Dauer. Both are practically at home in the mountains, which Sisi also loved so much. Freudenberg herself lives with her family on a mountain farm on the edge of the Alps and writes regularly about the beauty of this region, while Dauer lives on an alpine pasture in the Salzburger Land and spent a year traveling through the Alps in the Empress’s footsteps, taking photographs. In the picture gallery we show you a few exciting excursion destinations from the book.
