The singer makes no secret of it: When he was 13 years old, doctors diagnosed type 1 diabetes. How the 29-year-old dealt with the diagnosis, he told the celebrity portal “People”.

The US singer Nick Jonas says he didn’t have an encouraging role model when he was diagnosed with diabetes 16 years ago at the beginning of his career.

“When I received my first diagnosis, I was in the hospital and was scared to death,” said the now 29-year-old to the celebrity portal “People”. “It would have been great to have someone you could have looked at at the time and said,” Oh, that’s a person who lives with it and who follows his dream, “said Jonas.

It would probably have helped him if he had known someone with diabetes who would not have let his illness slow him down, says Jonas. Today he wants to be such a role model for others.

Jonas was 13 years old when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Shortly before, he had founded the pop band The Jonas Brothers with his older brothers.
